Smyrna hospital expanding

The Daily News Journal reports that Stonecrest Hopsital in Smyrna, TN, will be adding 26 medical-surgical beds on its fourth floor, bringing the total bed count to 101. The expansion is to be phased in through 2009, and ultimately will mean 75 additional jobs to the area.

Agreement leads to more work for Smyrna TN Nissan plant

According to a recent report, the Nissan manufacturing plant in Smyrna, TN, will be doing more work for Suzuki in the coming year. An agreement between the two companies will lead to the Smyrna plant manufacturing Suzuki’s pickup trucks in the coming year. This is a great opportunity for the Smyrna plant to maintain production levels in the coming year! Nissan has done great things for the Rutherford County economy. Smyrna TN Development: Petsmart and Verizon openings

The Daily News Journal reports that Verizon’s new store (replacing its Hickory Hollow store in Antioch) will open on Wednesday this week and that the Petsmart at Colonial shopping center will open on February 18, 2008.

Well, it’s been a while since we’ve given an update on Smyrna development news, and there have been a lot of changes going on! Kohl’s is open. Super Target and JC Penney will be open by Christmas. We’re still waiting for Staples and PetSmart and Ross Dress for Less to announce their openings.

The previously announced dual/dueling movie theaters have decided to combine forces for a single movie theater.

There are several new businesses locating in the recently-finished retail spaces along Sam Ridley Parkway. It’s a great time to live in Smyrna TN!

Home sales figures for the Nashville area remain strong, according to the Greater Nashville Association of Realtors.  Sales numbers for January 2007 were the second-highest number of closings ever for the month of January.

From the GNAR press release:

There were 2,791 sales pending at the end of January, compared with 2,972 sales that were pending at the same time last year. The median residential price during January was $172,900 and for a condominium it was $150,000. That compares with median residential and condominium prices at this time last year of $162,000 and $150,715 respectively. The average number of days on the market for a single-family residence was 72 days for the overall Nashville market.

Smyrna TN Real Estate: building permits huge for December 2006

According to the Murfreesboro Daily News Journal’s chamber of commerce insert for January, the town of Smyrna issued $6.8M in residential building permits and $13M in non-residential building permits for December 2006.

Real estate building permits also were high in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.  Murfreesboro issued $10.8M in residential permits and $2.6M in nonresidential.  In Rutherford County’s unincorporated areas, $9.7M in residential and $457,331 in nonresidential permits were issued.

Growth continues in Rutherford County.  Real estate is booming, and the commercial construction is following here in Smyrna, Tennessee.

Two Movie Theaters Coming to Smyrna

According to today’s Daily News Journal, not one but two movie theaters are vying to be in the Sam Ridley corridor.  The paper reports that this will result in 28 screens along the stretch.  One theater will be along the interstate, and the second theater will be behind Lowe’s near the upcoming business condos.

Rutherford County unemployment second-lowest in State

The June 23, 2006, edition of the Tennessean reports that Rutherford County enjoys the State’s second-lowest unemployment rate at 3.8%. 

Rutherford County: 9% job growth in 2005

The Daily News Journal reports that Rutherford County’s 2005 job growth rate was 9% - a fair piece over the nation’s average of 1.7%.  Factors improving job growth included the numerous large employers in the area, including Verizon, Nissan, State Farm, Asurion, and others.
